The Summerland Museum and Archives is a public, not-for-profit institution established in 1969 by a group of Summerland residents. It provides Summerland residents, visitors, and researchers with opportunities to explore the history of Summerland.

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic person to fill the role of Administrator for our museum. The Administrator will perform a variety of administrative duties that ensure the day-to-day functions of the museum are met. They will also work collaboratively with the Archivist/ Curator where necessary in tasks related to events, fundraising, and other museum related areas.

Duties for this position include:

1.     Conduct the administrative work of the museum, including but not limited to keeping track of Society membership and tax-deductible donations; making bank deposits; producing a seasonal newsletter; ensuring finances are kept up to date; electronic and physical filing of board meeting material and policies; managing and periodically ordering office supplies.

2.     Ensure that the daily museum operations are carried out, such as opening and closing the museum and providing excellent customer service (i.e. greeting guests, providing general information, and facilitating sales).

3.     Support the implementation of the education and public outreach programs, such as tours, workshops, lectures, classes, and volunteer services.

4.     Assist with promotional activities such as articles for newspapers, newsletters, magazines, and other publicity materials.

5.     Joint supervision of summer student with the Curator/Archivist.

6.     Process inquiries and registration for museum programs, special events, exhibits, and other activities.

7.     Update and maintain the museum website and social media including information on museum programs and events.

8.     Assist the Archivist/ Curator with the planning and carrying out of events and fundraising initiatives.

9.     Where necessary, assist the Archivist Curator with the setup, changes, and takedown of exhibits.

10.  And other related duties.

Qualifications:

1.     Great interpersonal skills and enjoys working with the public.

2.     Good organizational abilities.

3.      Excellent written and oral communication skills.

4.     Attention to detail and accuracy.

5.     Ability to handle competing priorities and frequent interruptions.

6.     Computer experience necessary.  Specifically experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint), Adobe software, Squarespace, and social media platforms.

7.     Professional experience working in the non-profit sector or similar organization an asset.
