Join us at 1:30 pm on May 25th, 2024 at the Ryga Arts Centre for a panel discussion on planning for the dispersal of treasured belongings and leaving bequests to charitable organizations. Titled “What to do with my stufff?”, this panel discussion brings together five local experts to discuss different options for those currently downsizing or looking to plan ahead.
Robert Van Alphen, a Financial Planner with CIBC Wood Gundy, will discuss how to set up a financial plan, including putting aside donations for charitable organizations and the effect this has on your taxes.
Anne-Marie Mizzi, a Lawyer with Avery Law Office, will address how to write a will that clearly states how you want your estate dispersed.
The Museum’s Curator, Petra Höller, will cover what kind of items are appropriate for donation to the museum’s collections and how tax receipts are issued for valuable items.
Tanya Clarke from the Carousel Collective antique store will talk about what items qualify as antiques or collectibles.
Finally, Berit Hack from the Summerland Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store will provide guidelines for what is appropriate to donate to their organization.
The goal of the panel discussion is not only to inform the general public about what their options are for dispersing their estates, but also for how they can leave a legacy in Summerland while optimizing the value of their gifts. Donations of different kinds can make a big impact for small non-profit organizations who serve the community.
This event is free to attend.
