Job Position: Museum Coordinator (5 month contract)
The Summerland Museum and Archives Society is a team dedicated to keeping our community’s history alive. Our vision statement is to commit to the passionate exploration of Summerland’s history. We carry out this vision statement by engaging the community in a variety of public programming such as historical tours, educational activities for children, exhibits, and hosting presentations.
Summerland is situated within the beautiful Okanagan Valley. With a population of about 11,615, Summerland is an agricultural community with a location that makes it a natural tourist hot spot, particularly in relation to wine tourism, the Ornamental Gardens, and the Kettle Valley Railway. It has many opportunities for indoor and outdoor recreation, as well as a vibrant arts community.
The Summerland Museum and Archives Society is looking for a temporary Museum Coordinator for a 5-month contract. This temporary position at the Summerland Museum will last from April 1 st to August 31 st 2025.
The position is responsible for the day-to-day running of the museum operations. It will require full cooperation with the current permanent, part-time administrator, and the supervision of a summer student (expected from mid-May to the end of August).
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
1. Coordinate the daily museum activities to be performed by staff, the summer student, and volunteers.
2. Compile the staff monthly work plans for review and comment by the president.
3. Liaise with the administrator to ensure financial accounting is properly conducted.
4. Liaise with the administrator to update the website, prepare a one-page monthly staff report for board meetings and an annual staff report for the AGM.
5. Conduct student interviews and, with the administrator, provide an orientation session and necessary training for the summer student.
6. Develop summer programming and activities for the summer student.
7. In conjunction with the board, represent the Museum at community events, or other outreach opportunities.
8. As requested, work with the board to provide support with such activities as funding applications, programming and, if experienced in these tasks, specific curatorial and archival projects including research requests.
The successful candidate is required to supply a criminal record check and a copy of their credentials.

Hours of Work: The position requires a negotiable attendance of up to 5 days a week (maximum 37.5 hours), from 9am to 5pm, Tuesdays to Saturdays.
Rate of Pay: $23/ hour
