The Summerland Museum will be holding a puzzle exchange on Wednesday, January 31st during our open hours (10am - 4pm). The public are invited to come down and trade in their old puzzles and browse our selection of gently-used ones.
*Please only bring puzzles that are in good condition with all of their pieces - thank you!
Don't have any puzzles to trade? That's okay! You can come pick up a puzzle by-donation to the Summerland Museum.
Did you know that January 29th is Puzzle Day? It seems fitting - a jigsaw puzzle is a great way to exercise your brain and be entertained on these dark, winter days! While today most puzzles are made from paperboard, early puzzles were made of wood with the image painted or adhered on. The term "jigsaw puzzle" was first used in the late 1800s, coming from the type of saw used to make the puzzles. However, this style of puzzle is much older - dating to around 1760. The first puzzle of this type was actually a map, cut up into pieces to act as a geography learning tool for school children!
